Test Format
Test takers are tested in listening, reading, writing and speaking. All test takers take the same Listening and Speaking modules. There is a choice between Academic and General Training in the Reading and Writing modules.
The tests are designed to cover the full range of ability from non-user to expert user.
Listening, Reading and Writing modules are completed in the morning. The Listening module commences at 9:30 a.m. and is followed by the Reading and Writing modules. These three sections last for three hours. There is no break during this time. The Speaking section is usually held the afternoon of the test day between 1:20 and 5:20 p.m., however speaking tests may be scheduled later. Every test taker spends 11–14 minutes in the speaking interview. All speaking interviews are usually completed by 6:00 p.m., however this cannot be guaranteed. Speaking times are randomly assigned and cannot be changed. The interview time will be provided in the morning during registration. Please note that while every effort will be made to ensure that test takers have a speaking time that is most convenient for them, the test centre cannot guarantee their preferred time.
NOTE: Speaking interviews are usually scheduled on the afternoon of the test day; however, the interview can be scheduled during the seven days prior to or seven days following the test day. If test takers interview is not on the test day, they will be contacted (via e-mail or phone) to inform them of the date and location of their speaking test.
